Charging Speed Explained

Charging speed is determined by the entire charging chain — not only the number printed on the charger.

What affects charging speed?

  • Your device: every phone, tablet, watch and pair of earbuds has its own charging limit.
  • The charger: wired and wireless outputs have different maximums.
  • The power adapter: an underpowered adapter can limit the whole setup.
  • The cable: not every USB-C cable supports the same power level.
  • Battery level: charging usually slows as the battery approaches full.
  • Temperature: devices may reduce power when warm.
  • Multiple devices: some chargers share available power across outputs.

Wireless vs wired charging

Wired charging can often deliver more power with less energy lost as heat. Wireless charging prioritizes convenience and alignment, while the actual rate depends on the device and charging standard.

Why the screen may show a different number

Advertised output is a maximum capability, not a promise that a device will continuously draw that amount. The device controls how much power it accepts at any moment.

How to get the best performance

  1. Use the recommended adapter and cable.
  2. Keep the device and charger reasonably cool.
  3. Align wireless devices correctly.
  4. Remove accessories that interfere with charging.
  5. Test one device at a time if troubleshooting.
